Soak the chana for around 7 to 8 hours before boiling or steaming.
Add a pinch of salt while steaming.
Add oil to a pan, add mustard seeds.
When they start spluttering, add urad dal. Roast the dal.
Add curry leaves. Add green chilies and 1 dry red chili for nice flavor.
Add asafoetida to the tadka. Mix well.
Add chopped cilantro to this which adds nice fresh flavor to the dish
Add boiled chana to the pan. Chana is already cooked so we don't have to cook this again.
Mix well. Add salt as per taste. Cover and cook it for 2-3 minutes so it absorbs all the flavor.
Add fresh coconut and cilantro and cook for another 2- 3 minutes so chana are not overcooked. Top it off with lemon juice. serve hot.
