Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of radish leaves with roots five cups chopped
  • 2 green chilies or dried red chilies
  • 1 small marble size ball of Tamarind soaked in water
  • 1/2 Cup soaked toor dal pigeon pea
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut

Instructions

  • Clean the radish leaves and roots thoroughly well.
  • Chop them finely.
  • Add finely chopped leaves and roots to a pan.
  • Also add 2-3 chillies (green or red).
  • Do not cut the chillies too finely instead one slit in the middle will sufice.
  • Now add half a cup of pre soaked toor dal (pigeon pea)
  • Add tamarind water to it. (Soak marble size tamarind ball in hot water for 30 minutes)
  • Mix it well.
  • As mentioned earlier this recipe is oil free.
  • Add very little water as the radish releases some water of its own.
  • Cover the pan with a lid and keep the burner on low flame.
  • Cook for about 5-8 mins and check for water content in the sabzi.
  • If needed add some more water so that the toor dal and vegetables cook well.
  • Add some jaggery and salt as per your taste.
  • Cover with a lid again and cook for another 5-6 minutes.
  • Once the sabzi is cooked well (no water is left in the pan) add half cup freshly grated coconut.
  • Give it a stir, cover with a lid and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • We do not want to over cook the coconut.
  • And that’s it. Our oil free radish sabzi is ready.
  • You can serve it with rice or roti.
